The mission of the Champaign Consortium, through the Workforce Investment Act (WIA), Trade Adjustment Act (TAA) and other programs, is to help economically disadvantaged individuals and others who face serious barriers to employment to become productively employed.



DHS - Division of Human Capital Development

DHS offers the following programs; AABD cash (Aid to the Aged, Blind or Disabled), Medical Assistance Programs, Food Stamps, TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families) cash benefits, and Kidcare Medical programs.

Parkland Adult & Workforce Education

A public community college, Parkland College serves the needs of area residents in career-oriented and academic education. The college offers certificates and degrees designed to meet regional employment needs, as well as providing affordable education to those wishing to transfer to four-year institutions. Short-term training workshops, continuing education units, licensing, and certification classes are also offered to keep employees and employers competitive in the marketplace.

Parkland's Adult Education/Literacy program offers FREE day and evening reading, writing, mathematics, computer skills, job skills/career planning, and conversational English class for non-native English speakers. Classes are for adults at any skill level who want to pass the GED test and/or improve their educational and employment opportunities.

Champaign County Regional Planning Commission

Champaign County Regional Planning Commission offers referral, advocacy, and a carer mentoring program for low-income families.

Job Corps

Job Corps is the nation's largest job training program for at-risk youth, ages 16 through 24, while offering a wide range of employer services.

Urbana School District #116, Adult Education

Urbana Adult Education offers basic education (G.E.D. preparation, high school credit, math, etc.), business education (keyboarding, word processing, spreadsheets, etc.), English as a second language, and Family Literacy.

Illinois Migrant Council promotes employment, educational and other opportunities for migrant and seasonal farm workers.

DHS - Division of Rehabilitation Services

The DRS assist youth leaving school and adults with disabilities in finding stable employment opportunities in their communities that will lead to economic self-sufficiency and community living.

Assist clients seeking employment or filing claims for unemployment. Assist employers in filling open positions with qualified applicants through Illinois Skills Match.

Experience Works

Experience Works is a national, nonprofit organization that provides training and employment services for mature workers. Established in 1965 as Green Thumb, and renamed Experience Works in 2002, the organization reaches more than 125,000 mature individuals in all 50 states and Puerto Rico each year.

Housing Authority of Champaign County

The Housing Authority provides housing and rental assistance for qualified individuals and families through several programs, such as public housing and Section 8. The Section 8 list is currently closed to new applicants. Qualifying factors include income, family status, disability and age. Please call Housing Authority for site information.
