WELCOME TO JOB CLUB

JOB SEARCH IS A LEARNED SKILL, NOT A NATURAL INSTINCT

Job Club is a focused, outcome driven, free program that strives to motivate participants to take personal responsibility for finding employment and retaining employment. Various kinds of job search tools and resources are available and are used to assist the participant in conducting a job search and increase the chance of retaining a job. We are eager to assist individuals in the following areas:
  • Self-Assessment: Reviewing job-related skills; self-management skills and transferable skills.
  • Job Applications: Review a job application and discover how to answer challenging questions.
  • Personal References: Discuss how to successfully use personal references during your job search.
  • Resumes: Tips for writing your resume and Jist cards, along with information and samples of different styles of resumes.
  • Contacts: How to develop a network of contacts.
  • Interviewing: Discuss interview questions; review the importance of practicing your interview questions and preparing for a job interview.
  • Cover Letters: Receive a variety of sample cover letters and information on writing a cover letter.
  • Thank you & Follow-up Letters: Increase your chances of getting the job you have applied for after your interview by sending a thank you letter. Take part in discussion about thank you letters and gain tips on what to put in a letter.
  • Hidden Job Market: Tap into the "Secret Job Market." Eighty percent of employment comes through jobs that are not widely advertised. Find out how to use the hidden market to your advantage.
  • Job Retention: Discussions on how to adjust to the workplace and retain your job.

We regularly invite private sector human resource people, people from different government offices, the University of Illinois and Parkland College to be guest speakers for our members on a variety of topics. Be sure to check back often, as our list is continuously updated.
